"Need High Speed or High Reliability? The ezRAID FireWire USB RAID enclosure is a
great solution!"
The ezRAID is a hardware RAID enclosure offering RAID 0, RAID 1, SPANNING or JBOD.
Accommodates two SATA hard drives and allows you to set up a two drive RAID connected
to either a FireWire port (FireWire RAID) or USB port (USB RAID). A true hardware solution, the ezRAID requires no software installation. Just put your drives in the drive trays, set the RAID type with the
configuration switch and plug it into a FireWire or USB port.
The ezRAID has a built-in SATA to FireWire 800/USB 2.0 controller using a combination of 32bit
RISC processor, an Operational Request Block (ORB) hardware coprocessor and a high performance buffer manager to control and
manage RAID functions, without
any computer system overhead.
RAID 0 - Striping (Fast)
Set to RAID 0, the ezRAID splits the data and writes to both SATA hard drives at the same time,
moving data at double the speed of a single drive. RAID 0 combines both disks
into one volume...i.e. two 750GB drives are seen by the computer as a single 1.5
Terabyte drive! In excess of 80MB/sec sustained
data transfer rate can be achieved when connected to a FireWire 800 port using
RAID 0.
RAID 1 - Mirroring (Reliable)
When the ezRAID is set to RAID 1, all of your data is simultaneously written to both SATA
hard drives, creating a backup (or mirror) of your data on the 2nd drive. In the
event one hard drive fails, the ezRAID will continue to function, reading and
writing from the good drive. Once a new hard drive is installed, the ezRAID will
do an automatic background rebuild of the data to the new drive.
Spanning - Concatenation (One Big Drive)
Spanning, like RAID 0 (striping) uses both disks as one volume (ie if you have
say, two 250GB drives, this would be seen by the computer as a single 500GB
volume of storage). But unlike RAID 0 which writes a little data to each drive
in turn, spanning writes to one disk until it is full and then begins on the
next disk. Spanning is typically used if you have hard drives of different
sizes but would like to treat them as one volume.
JBOD - Just a Bunch of Drives (Individual Drives)
When set to JBOD, the ezRAID configures your drives as two separate
drives. Each drive shows up separately in the Operating System.
Handy for users that need to separate drives, but only want to use a single
FireWire or USB port to connect them.
Direct Air Cooling - Highly
Efficient Thermal Management
Each drive tray includes a large, quiet fan, pushing air directly onto the
bottom of the hard drive. This keeps the HDD temperature close to ambient, often resulting in
a 90% thermal exchange! Keeping your SATA hard drives cool not only increases
the RAID stability, but provides higher performance as there is no need for thermal calibration.
